Objectives /Opportunities
The economic world confronts nowadays two levels of crises :
- A short-termism crisis : the evolution of globalization together with the technological revolution favor that companies lose their capacity to envisage their strategies on the long term. Companies and organizations need to train making steps back and see the whole picture instead of exclusively react on a short-term basis to the environment changes.
- A need for making sense of professional lives : the long time supposedly exclusive objective of business – e.g. making profit – is not any more the only one. People need that their professional lives make sense beyond exclusively money making. This is even more clearly the case for the coming generations.
- The track provides students with the following competences :
How to make ideally the best decisions on real time when it comes to ethics – cf the course on ethics and decision-making -, taking into account that ethics may not be considered as separated from the daily managerial or professional life.
How to keep in mind the whole picture when it comes to make strategic decisions – the philosopher Nietzsche says that humans cannot envisage the future on the long term as long as they do not understand their past – this is the objective of the course on philosophy and trade, which gives students the fundamentals to understand and appropriate the ways how economy, politics, trade and philosophy interact.
How to integrate complexity in the managerial decisions, and how to make complexity an asset rather than a danger and a limit to efficient action. In other words, how to be efficient and resilient in a VUCA world.
The three above competences are crucial for any leader as long as she/he wants her/his organization to be resilient in an increasingly uncertain world.
The main functions or concerned positions are related to HRM, consultancy, any leadership positions any kind of company.
